The first week was spent in Hotel Varazdin, although the hotel was very dated the rooms were very big and comfortable with beautiful views. The food was very nice with a varied menu. It was very much a 'Croatian' resort with very few people from other countries which was good because you got the feel of the country. The main problem we encountered was the drive from Venice to Selce (150 miles) should have taken 3 to 4 hours actually took 13 hours because of the sheer congestion. My advice for anyone driving to Croatia would be to travel on any day but Saturday. Also the room we had was next to a chimney and was impossibly hot and stuffy. Part of the wall was extremely hot to touch, really the hotel should provide air conditioning for the rooms that were next to the chimney.
