| | Smokvica (island of Korcula)
| | | Smokvica is located in the interior of the island of Korcula, connected to the mainland by daily ferry lines. Blato, the nearest larger settlement, is 10 km away. Smokvica, inhabited since prehistoric times, is ideal for those interested in ethnography, traditional rural architecture and way of life. The inhabitants of Smokvica have lived off of wine, fruit and olive growing for centuries. Particularly interesting are the old customs that have been passed down from generation to generation by the inhabitants of Smokvica and Blato, such as the medieval knight dance "kumpanija". Furthermore, Smokvica is known for its white wines - Posip and Rukatac - made from grapes grown on the island. The nearest beach is 4 km away in the bay of Brna.
We recommend: Gospa Kandelora parish church / old settlements nearby: Blato, Cara, Zrnovo and Pupnat / tourist centers: Vela Luka and Korcula / bays with wonderful swimming areas: Brna, Prizba and Zavalatica
How to get there: from the ferry port Vela Luka: 19 km east on the island's main road Vela Luka - Korčula / from the ferry port Korcula: 32 km west on the island's main road Korcula - Vela Luka. |
