| | Omisalj (island of Krk) | | | Omisalj is placed on the south-western part of the Kvarner island of Krk, connected to the mainland by the Krcki bridge. The acropolis settlement, one of the oldest on the island, dating back to Roman times, is built above the Omisaljski bay. This place, traditionally oriented towards fishing and agriculture, is nowadays a tourist center known for its sports facilities, rich cultural heritage and various types of entertainment. Besides rowing and sailing, the Omisaljski bay offers many other sporting activities (tennis, mini golf, football etc.). The rocky and concrete beaches are surrounded by cypresses and pine trees. We recommend Omisalj to guests interested in cultural and folklore heritage, to active holiday enthusiasts and to families with children.
We recommend: Fulfinum - ruins of a Roman settlement / early Christian basilica in the Sepen bay / the Romanesque church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary / collection of stone monuments / the Grade fortification / Njivice - a wonderful tourist destination / 110 m long Biserujka cave where classical music concerts take place
How to get there: 3 km from the Krcki bridge on the main road towards the town of Krk
Did you know: Bascanska ploca - the oldest known Croatian language document was found on the island of Krk / Stomorina - local festival held in Omisalj on the 16th of August, where a traditional dance is performed by young people in order to celebrate the harvest |
