New highway sections in 2004    I For car hire click here I

One of main strategic projects of Croatian economy is to build a quality network of modern traffic directions that would connect continental and coastal regions of Croatia as well as North and South of Croatian coast, and directly include Croatia in European road network.

This year's plan of building highways contains the opening of 4 new sections on Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik highway by June 30th 2004, thus reaching the total length of 341 km of newly build road sections. The project's goal is to reach Dubrovnik by 2008.

Highway toll is paid according to the length of highway section and according to type of vehicle. Toll can be paid in tollbooths in cash, via credit cards (AMERICAN EXPRESS, DINERS, MASTER CARD, MAESTRO, VISA), or citizen's checks. The smallest amount per check is 10,00 KN.
Toll can also be paid in foreign currency according to the
exchange rate list of PBZ established on the day of paying.

A6 HIGHWAY RIJEKA-ZAGREB
Highway section from Bosiljevo to Vrbovsko is opened to traffic thus making the whole highway A6, with the total length of 146 km, open for traffic and at tourists' disposal in the season 2004. Gas station is situated in Ravna Gora, and by the end of 2004 this section will witness the opening of two other gas stations.

A1 HIGHWAY: ZAGREB - SPLIT
In the year 2004 there will be a total of 341 km of Zagreb - Split - Dubrovnik highway released for traffic, including the 96 km long section from the tunnel Mala Kapela to the intersection Gornja Ploča.

New sections of highway A1 were released for traffic on 30/06/2004 in the following order:

  1. SECTION MALA KAPELA - GORNJA PLOČA: 96 km
  2. SECTION GORNJA PLOČA-ZADAR II: 59,8 km
  3. SECTION ZADAR II - PIROVAC, 36 km
  4. SECTION VRPOLJE - DUGOPOLJE, 45 km
Note: you can not yet directly reach Split from Zagreb by driving the A1 highway because the 33 km long section from Vrpolje to Pirovac will not be finished until next year, not before the bridge over river Krka has been built. Drivers will thus have to exit the highway in Vrpolje on to a regional road D58, the so called "borajska road" in order to reach the intersection in Pirovac after passing Šibenik, the old Adriatic Highway and broadened local road, and at the intersection again enter the highway towards Zadar.
