| | Janjina (peninsula Peljesac)
| | | Janjina is an old place in the interior, 2 km from the sea, on the southern Dalmatian peninsula Peljesac that is connected to the mainland by the road via Ston and the ferry line Ploce-Trpanj. It has several archeological sites that date back to ancient times. The inhabitants of Janjina have traditionally lived off of agriculture, primarily wine and olive growing, therefore we recommend Janjina to those interested in traditional way of live and customs. The coast and bay of Drace are only 2 km away and can be easily reached by car or bicycle.
We recommend: ruins of an Illyrian settlement above Janjina / Sv. Stjepan church / walls of a Roman rural villa near the village cemetery / Pre-Romanesque Sv. Juraj church / palace with rustic reliefs / several beautiful 19th century houses built by captains / Historicist Sv. Vlaho church
How to get there: from Ston - 15 km on the island's main road Ston - Drace where it branches off for Janjina that lies 2 km away / from the ferry port Trpanj - 15 km on the island's main road Trpanj - Popova luka where it branches off for Janjina that lies 3 km away. |
